Committing to Justice Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Hutchison & Foreman, PLLC
Hutchison & Foreman, a Texas law firm led by Attorneys Susan Hutchison and S. Rafe Foreman, is pleased to provide financial support to students pursuing legal careers. Over the course of their careers, Ms. Hutchison and Mr. Foreman have devoted significant effort to strengthening the legal profession and supporting up-and-coming attorneys. In that spirit, the firm awards a $1,500 scholarship each semester to an eligible law student through the Hutchison & Foreman Committing to Justice Scholarship.
Purpose
This scholarship is intended to help law students who plan to follow a path similar to that of the firm—particularly those who aspire to represent plaintiffs in civil rights or employment discrimination matters. If your career goals include advocating for individuals in these areas, we encourage you to apply.
Eligibility
Before submitting an application, confirm that you meet all of the following requirements:
- Currently a law student with an interest in representing plaintiffs in civil rights or employment discrimination cases
- At least 18 years old
- Enrolled in an accredited law school
Application Materials
Prepare the items below before applying:
- Proof of enrollment: acceptable documents include an acceptance letter, a letter of admission, or your current class schedule.
- Consent to publish: applicants must agree that, if selected, their submitted video may be published on the firm’s marketing channels to announce the winner.
- Video submission (URL): a 3–5 minute video addressing the prompt below. Provide the video as a URL link.
Video Prompt
In 3–5 minutes, explain what motivated you to become interested in and pursue work involving civil rights and employment discrimination. Make sure your video fully answers the question and is clear and well-organized.
Review Process and Timeline
After the application deadline, the firm will take approximately four weeks to review and rank submissions. Applications are evaluated based on:
- Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to justice (past actions and a compassionate motivation)
- Completeness of the application and required documents
- Overall production quality and organization of the video
- Whether the video fully answers the prompt and adheres to the 3–5 minute time frame
Notification and Announcement
If you are selected for the scholarship, you will receive direct notification via email. The recipient will also be announced on the Hutchison & Foreman website and on the firm’s social media channels.
