Introduction
Addiction does not discriminate — it affects individuals of every age, background, gender, and income level. Committed to breaking the stigma around substance use disorders and supporting those affected, Mountainside is proud to offer the Brighter Future College Scholarship. This program is designed to help young people pursue higher education and move toward healthier, more fulfilling lives. Applicants will submit a personal essay describing how their own addiction or a loved one’s addiction has influenced them, helping to raise awareness about the realities of this disease.
Award Details
- Ten awards of $1,000 each, available to high school students.
Eligibility
- Must be a high school junior or senior.
- Applicants must both live in and be enrolled at a high school in one of the following states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, or New Jersey.
How to Apply
- Provide a 500–800 word personal essay that addresses all of the following:
- In what ways has your own addiction, or a loved one’s addiction, affected you?
- What positive and negative effects has it had on your life?
- How has your understanding or perspective of addiction as a disease changed?
- How would this scholarship support your plans for further education?
Submissions should thoughtfully reflect your experience and perspective, highlighting the real-life impact of addiction while demonstrating how this support would help your academic goals.
