Sunshine Opportunity Scholarships

Overview
The Sunshine Opportunity Scholarships, funded by the Godbold Foundation, Inc. (Tierra Verde, FL), provide up to $25,000 per recipient spread over four years of in-state undergraduate study at a public university in the student’s home state (Florida, South Carolina, or North Carolina). Ten awards are made each year.
Application window
December 1 to March 4.
Who this program is for
- Current high school seniors who reside in one of the eligible geographic areas: Pinellas or Hillsborough counties (Tampa Bay area), FL; the cities of Florence or Marion, SC; or Avery County, NC.
- U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Students with demonstrated financial need (FAFSA required).
- Applicants with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Students who have faced and overcome significant personal hardships.
- Those planning to attend a public university as an in-state student in their state of permanent residency (this award does not cover out-of-state tuition).
Award details
- Number of awards each year: up to 10.
- Annual payment: $6,250.
- Total possible value over four years: $25,000.
- Renewable annually provided the recipient remains enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.
Application requirements and documents
Before beginning the scholarship application, complete the FAFSA and obtain your Student Aid Index (SAI); you will be required to upload the SAI. It is recommended that you preview the application form and review the scholarship website prior to starting.
You will need to upload the following:
- Two letters of recommendation (PDF format).
- High school transcript showing fall semester grades from your senior year — upload this only in January or February and only if the transcript includes your fall semester grades. Do not submit a transcript that omits those grades.
Maintaining the award
Recipients must be enrolled full-time each term and maintain satisfactory academic standing at their public, in-state university to keep the scholarship.
