Eligibility & Selection Criteria

Scholarship decisions are made through a holistic review that examines academic preparation, personal qualities, and demonstrated impact. Admissions evaluates both quantitative measures, such as GPA and transcripts, and qualitative evidence, such as essays and extracurricular leadership. Standardized test scores are considered only if submitted. The review seeks students whose achievements and potential align with Furman’s standards for scholarship and community contribution.

Eligibility: Candidates are assessed on academic performance, strength of curriculum, submitted standardized test scores (optional), writing ability demonstrated in personal essays, leadership and co-curricular involvement, and community service and impact.

Application Process

Applying for admission to Furman automatically places you in consideration for merit-based scholarships; no separate scholarship application is required. You may apply using the Common Application or the Coalition/SCOIR Application, and there is no application fee. Choose the application plan that fits your timeline (Early Decision I or II, Early Action, or Regular Decision) and submit the required school documents to complete your file. Official transcripts and the School Report must be sent by your high school counselor through the chosen application platform.

Application Timeline: Applicants may apply under Early Decision I or II, Early Action, or Regular Decision; scholarship consideration follows the admissions timeline associated with each plan.

Required Materials: Complete the Common Application or Coalition/SCOIR Application; request an official high school transcript and ensure your counselor submits the School Report; submit standardized test scores only if you choose to include them.
